Tee Ball
KRA Sports offers tee ball for boys and girls 41/4 and 5 years old. It is a program recommended for teaching the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. It is recommended that children be at least 4 1/2 years old by the sign-up date, have a proven desire to play and have previously played baseball in the backyard. All batters will hit the ball from a batting tee that is adjusted to a height that allows the batter to swing level for the 1st inning in each game and will work towards coach pitch baseball in the following two innings in each game. All rostered players present for the game will bat in order and play in the field each inning. An adult coach is stationed beyond the infielders in order to provide instruction to all defensive players. The primary goal is to instruct players in the fundamentals of baseball in a supportive, positive team environment.
Jr. Farm
Jr. Farm, or Coach Pitch, baseball is designed primarily for 6 trough 8 year olds. The coach pitches to each batter from a pitcher's circle 38' to 42' from home plate. Offering more controlled pitches, there is more action at the bat and in the field. Fear of being hit by a pitched ball is greatly diminished in this league. The game is safer and overall confidence and ability is improved. If you talk to any player, parent or coach who has participated in this league, you will undoubtedly hear them say that this was the most fun and rewarding. Parents should not be too anxious at this level to push their child into the kid-pitch level too soon. Consider the exciting experience a player receives at the Jr. Farm level before jumping to conclusions
Farm
KRA Offers the first stages of kid-pitch baseball for 9 and 10 year old players. At this level with their peers, players continue to build and refine their fundamental baseball skills while they begin to understand game strategy. KRA request that all players, parents and coaches remember that is all about a game and having fun playing it. Unsportsmanlike conduct and comments directed at other coaches, umpires or players will not be tolerated. Please make this level a positive experience for all involved
City League
KRA sponsors midget baseball teams for ages 10 through 12. Intermediate baseball teams for ages 13 through 14 are available, as well as senior teams for ages 15 through 18. Uniforms and equipment are provided by KRA while schedules and games are coordinated by the City of Virginia Beach Recreation Department.
Facilities
Kempsville Recreation Association has twelve practice fields that are utilized by our Baseball and Softball Programs. (No looking for practice fields, all teams are assigned designated KRA fields).
